    Yes, the space shuttle has three Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and they are running for the landing process in order to provide hydraulic pressure. But why that they produce this characteristic sound is something which I don't know.

  • @telemetry9 No, there are other spotter aircraft flying nearby. They monitor the shuttle's descent.

  • does the shuttle have power when it's landing? thought i heard engines.
