If you do not have audio then read this description:

This is a rhode island red.
it is an old breed developed in the 1800s
in New England, America. Not neccassirly rhode island
it also bears the distinction of being the only chicken
that is a state bird. The chicken being the state bird of rhode island

This is the origin of the classic brown egg layers that we have today.

Almost all of our commercial brown egg layers are crosses of the rhode island red.

These are good egg laying birds and they lay quite consistently.

They are also good to raise as meat birds,
not quite as good as the bard rock but they make
an excellent small yard bird.

Most of the birds that you will find that are brown egg laying birds are crosses of rhode island reds and probably bard rocks or other types of rocks and thats what makes up the brown egg laying population. Even in most of america brown eggs are not the preferred egg. Here in New England they really are still the preferred egg. It makes no difference to the egg, brown or white egg shell, just personal preference.
