Fr. Danny - Covers the history of Confession from the Early Church through the Council of Trent. Fr. Danny Garcia speaks about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, part 10 of 15. This talk was recorded on 26 February 2008 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cedar Park, near Austin. Fr. Danny discusses what Reconciliation is and is not, walking through the history of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and how it has evolved. Also covered are such basics as how to go to confession, what is a mortal vs. a venial sin, sins of ommission and commission, forgiveness, and how it is rooted in God's love for us.

  • Depended on the monastic group.....

    Penance was meant not so much as punishment for sin, but as a discipline to transform the heart and mind towards Christ. Formal absolution wasn't always part of the equation....but could follow afterwards.

    .a good example of this is the scene of penance in The Mission with Robert DeNero and Jeremy Irons. (1966)

  • So was a person after vconfession immediatelty forgiveness but they had to be punished?
