  • was this train (the empty one) going to Melbourne?

  • @shazam75 - yes it was heading towards Melbourne. The full COFC train was heading towards Adelaide, and the Steel train was heading towards Melbourne.

  • What a shame about the empty train. Trains had better survive cause cars and trucks are too much CO2

  • It was probably a cars balancing move - most COFC trains along the western mainline between Melbourne & Adelaide are fairly full.

I agree that trains are far more friendly to the environment, and they make the roads safer too.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • @jimsmodeltrains that will explain why the Melbourne bound has empty freight cars as there is more traffic heading to Adelaide and they need to bring those flat cars back to melbourne for loading.

  • The first one looks like MP5/PM5 which runs from Melbourne to Perth via Adelaide. These are usually full or near and between Adelaide and Perth, are double stacked. The steel train looks like WP2. The last one looks like MP7/PM7. Like MP5, this is usually built up in length and double stacked west of Adelaide.
