The Western Retreat Center preserves the living transmission of Diamond Way Buddhism. It is a place where our Buddhist practice deepens through meditation courses, personal retreats, gatherings of friends and more.
During the Marpa Course, Lama Ole will guide meditations and give teachings about Marpa's life (1012 - 1096), which directly applies to the way we practice Buddhism in the West today. Marpa wasn't a monk and he did not outwardly renounce so-called "worldly life" -- he had a spouse and children, owned land, and worked within society on a daily basis as most of us do today. Through Marpa's life we also see how the Dharma came from India to Tibet and eventually became an integral part of Tibetan society, much like it has migrated from Tibet into the West during the 20th century. During his three trips to India, Marpa spent altogether 16 years with his main teacher Naropa, and received many teachings and empowerments from him and other great teachers of the time. He realized all of the received teachings and translated them into Tibetan over the course of his life.
Coupled with the 16th Karmapa at the Heartland Retreat Center, this program provides great depth into the essence of Diamond Way Buddhism. The two together represent a new stage in the history of the lineage in North America. It is the first time that national courses with Lama Ole take place at our retreat centers, both acquired in 2009.

Why are you not able to find space in your mind ? Where is the space or is the space better in a center or when Ole is speaking ? Why do I ask questions, if the buddha was the first to ask questions ? Going forwards or backwards in time was the antidote to find the now. Everything was in you all ready, but you seemed to lack real suffering or real encouragement. If you do not become real yogis, you will only be a reflection of your sick society. If sangha is not healthy then the individual ....

If i could offer one bit of advice to my buddhist friends. find out if there are rattle snakes and/or any types of dangerous spiders that naturally inhabit that area. If there are just give people a heads-up about sleeping on the ground, walking barefoot in the dark. It looks like scorpion country so shake your shoes out before you put them on. I love ole nydahl.
