Boat bottoms yield filter feeding invertebrates, eggs, juvenile crustaceans, sponges, all essential stages and part of the food chain (not just barnacles!). When they outgrow the safety of this habitat, they venture into the sea. These can be replanted instead of disposing into rubbish containers at boatyards. When barnacles are scraped off the hull, they die. The sponges being more resilient usually live, if replanted among rocks. This is where new generations of marine creatures and schools of fish come from. More info at: www.provitapaxmarineresearch.org.
