Sunny - a "standard" issue for us GWVs is replacing excessive shame with guilt-free self respect and self love. Doing that - and improving communication skills - will avoid or help resolve most relationship problems - even with other GWCs.

So happy to find a humanistic(ally) driven mental health caregiver, there are some really harsh "get your !#%! together" out there. true recovery takes time.

Sounds to me like your friend is a shame-based "Grown Wounded Child" (GWC). I encourage both of you to study and discuss "lesson 1": at sfhelp.org/gwc/guide1.htm.
