On August 24th, 2009 the Farm Yard Gardens interns hosted a large group of homeschooled children at the farm for a garden tour and harvest dinner. There were 10 families in attendance (15 adults and 22 children) and many intern volunteers to show them around the garden. The interns helped show the children how to water the garden, how to weed the garden and how to harvest the vegetables. The children were also very delighted to feed the horses and chase the chickens around the farm. After the farm tour the interns harvested some crops from the garden and made a bbq dinner for our visitors. A vegetable roast was made with freshly picked turnips, carrots, zucchini, broccoli, potatoes, garlic and spices and a big summer salad was made with freshly picked lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, dill and other spices. In addition to the harvest menu items the interns also prepared some hotdogs and veggiedogs. Both the interns and the visitors all left with smiles on their faces. Read the Sudbury Star article here.
