Obama Rebuked by the House

The U.S. House of Representatives on July 9 voted almost unanimously to rebuke President Barack Obama over his June 24 signing statement openly declaring that he could ignore five provisions of the law he was signing.

This bill would provide $106 billion for fiscal year 2009 to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also includes a smattering of other provisions, including funding for the International Monetary Fund, a requirement that none of the money appropriated by the bill is spent on moving Guantanamo detainees to the U.S. and a Lieberman-Graham sponsored ban on the release of photos depicting detainee torture even if their disclosure is required by the Freedom of Information Act.

Obama's signing statement:
However, provisions of this bill within sections 1110 to 1112 of title XI, and sections 1403 and 1404 of title XIV, would interfere with my constitutional authority to conduct foreign relations by directing the Executive to take certain positions in negotiations or discussions with international organizations and foreign governments, or by requiring consultation with the Congress prior to such negotiations or discussions. I will not treat these provisions as limiting my ability to engage in foreign diplomacy or negotiations.

Section 1404 of Title XIV would prevent our money being loaned to governments that sponsor terrorism.

All America should have rebuked him for an earlier signing statement of his, to the Omnibus bill he signed...in that one besides the anti-whistleblower part, he disavowed the provision for Congress (exercising appropriations power) to *not* appropriate $ for our military being put under *foreign* command in the narrow case of when no military advised it, Obama said nope, he usurped that legislative power to the Executive to fund our troops under *foreign* command even if NO advisor so advised

Thank you! The time is now to go to town city and state reps call them every week at least and tell them what you think. It helps a lot. Members are going home this month{ August} and they'll be having town meetings. Protest the bills!!! Food safety, Health care, Patent reform, etc It's the big push people get up and do it. :)
