Such a majestic animal and a real treat to be able to keep one as a pet an aquarium enthusiast needs a lot of heart to keep one of these, its extremly difficult to keep one mainly because of the animals skin, they have NO protection what so ever to water imbalances while fish at least have scales, so many things can go wrong with keeping one of these unique creatures that it is quite like a toddler in a tank needing constant care cause it WILL come looking for that attention if its not given it.

@VampAro600 turtles arent for losers my turtle is a 13 year old red ear slider and he lives in a man made koy pond in my backyard. he eats feeder gold fish and swims alot

Dont octo's have short life spans? My understanding was that they only live a year or two. Would be a shame to have such a cool pet and it be so short lived.

Yes, they only live 1.5 to 2.5 years =[ Gyth only lived 1.5..
It isn't incredibly long.. but they learn so much in that time, and you have to enjoy it while you can. They are incredible animals. Really does suck to see them go though because they are smart and sociable.. you grow attached to em.

Nope our's actually never left our tank, or not that we know of lol =]
They are pretty sneaky and nocturnal, and know when you are around.. So they would do it when we're asleep if they did ha.
It's not too big of a problem to deal with I don't think.. Just keep all of the holes taped up, other than for the protein skimmer if need be. They are really sensitive to water quality to make sure you have everything perfect before you put them in or they could die. Awesome pet though, so smart mang.
