Joshua DuBois, the Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, was the keynote speaker at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See's October 2010 conference on interfaith action, "Building Bridges of Hope," hosted by the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. The participants focused on three areas where faith groups work together for the common good and where strengths can be drawn from one another's united efforts as people of faith: in caring for the environment, ethical and equitable development, and preventing conflict. Mr. DuBois spoke of the common suffering of all people through history, the long marches of different peoples, as a force that should remind us of our shared humanity. That shared humanity should inspire us to reach out a steadying hand when a fellow human being is in need.
