Episode: Malice for Quake
Level: The Lab
Secrets: One
Difficulty: Hard

A New Year Bonus!

Due to the abject lack of proper 'action' last time around, I thought I'd treat you all to a real dose of Malice slightly earlier than scheduled. Why? Cos I'm a nice guy! This is just one of those rare one-offs so don't start getting any crazy ideas that I may start uploading a new video every day like I used to again. Those days have come and gone, my friends.

Anyway, back to Malice. What have I got in store for you today? Well, I have new weapons, new enemies and a new environment for you all to take a gander at. The first level is rather generous with the amount of weapons for you to play with. Thankfully, it's not one of those levels where you get every weapon in the game straight off the bat. No, Malice is better than that. It wants to draw you in with a steady pace rather than spit everything it's got at you straightaway. And for one, I appreciate that gesture.

Since I played the game through the Steam version, there'll be a few things that get screwed up in the process. Most notably on this level is the fact that the Takahiro Raider enemy (that metal dude you see on the splash screen at the beginning) is missing his top half. He acts just as he normally would as if I was playing this through DOS but playing Malice through the Steam version of Quake allowed me to marvel at some of the bizarre glitches and quirks this game unintentionally exudes.

Don't worry, there's PLENTY more where that came from!

  • To anyone who's interested, I've now written a 'dummy's guide' on how to get Malice running through the Steam version of Quake. It lives on the 'Guides' page of my website - galleyuk(dot)net.

Hope it works for you! I wrote the instructions down as I was testing so hopefully it all makes sense.

  • Is it compatible witht he darkplaces engine?

  • @JoanMichele At the time when I did this playthrough, the Darkplaces Steam Quake patch was installed on my machine so it definitely works. Although I'm unsure as to whether or not Malice uses any of the inherent features that Darkplaces provides.

Unfortunately, running the game through Darkplaces came at a cost. You'll see what I mean later on. Hint: It breaks some of the levels.

  • Play Serious Sam 3!!!

  • @halo364 I shall!!! When I feel up to doing it of course. There's no rush.
