Been having some issues with my stock clutch that I got at AutoZone. Besides the fact that it slips at high RPM's, when it gets hot, it REALLY slips at high RPM's. Not to mention the pedal feel changes dramatically. I can't even shift fast above 5000RPM anymore, for the fear that the clutch will just vaporize or something. DON'T BUY YOUR CLUTCHES AT AUTOZONE!!!

  • Saying to not buy from AutoZone is pretty ridiculous. It's the brand you buy that matters. If you cheaper out and bought a store brand clutch, Thats your fault. Not theirs.

  • Man, did someone at AZ corp send the minions in? haha In addition to the terrible clutch, there was the time where I was going through AZ lower control arms like Scooby snacks, one every 2-3 months. The lifetime warranty was great and all, but AZ doesn't pay me for the time that I wasted every time I had to replace that arm. I finally said "f this" after the third replacement, and bought new arms from another local parts house. 5 years later, and the new arms are still good. Just sayin guy.

  • Could be a lot of reasons for this.

Did you replace the pressure plate? Did you have the flywheel milled? Did you you take accurate measurements and make sure there isn't too much of a gap?

  • @jjenson2006 Yes, yes, and yes.

The AutoZone garbage was replaced with a Southbend stage 1 clutch that gave me 4 years of trouble free use.

  • don't buy anything from autozone if you can help it! I would trust junk yard parts over most autozone parts! :o

  • @ximustbeinsaynex wat about Ebay? you get good prices.

  • @tabaristewart I hear that, brother.

  • @martyscheuerjr Sorry you didn't come to my store. We actually know what we're doing and don't have part number dyslexia.

  • As someone that works auto parts, the generalization that one store has a crappy lineup is absolute rubbish and ignorance.

Believe it or not, the parts that you buy at one company probably go through the same vendor as another company and they just slap their own labels over the package. Duralast is AutoZone brand, but the actual parent company may wind up being factory. You just never know.

Cardone, Fenco, Johnson Controls, Wells etc.- you'd be surprised how much isn't actual store brand.

  • @jjenson2006 Exactly, you know what you're talking about. Not like some peolple.

  • @DarkGemini1979 Could be that you just got a bad one; that could happen with any manufacturer. If this happened on a large scale, Duralast would go out of business, so you probably just got a bad one. Also, it is very important to break in a clutch before bringing those RPM's up. If you rev it up right after you install it, you can damage it. Of course if you're going to be racing with the clutch, it makes sense to buy one that is designed for high revving.
