Hurt was written by Nine Inch Nails. Jhonny Cash totally "nailed" it yes, but he didn't write it.

I don't think anyone else wrote the words, at least I have never seen any evidence of that in the credits and have heard Trent talk about the words in interview as well. Also comparing the words to everything else he has ever written they seem to fit, they don't stand out as something someone else could have written.

the guy in NIN i beleive wrote the notes for piano, though i beleive someone else wrote the words, i could be wrong; would be interesting to know for sure though :)
