Here's a westbound coming from Columbus, Ga into Phenix City, Al via the bridge over the Chattahoochee River.

Note the middle unit is still in the N&W (Norfolk and Western) paint.

  • thats PHENIX city, alabama. Not phoenix.

  • Yup, I realized this after I uploaded the video. Another railfan mantioned it on another video shot from this location. I can change all the youtube information (which I've aloreay done) but I can't change the title on the video. Sorry about that.

  • Nice video by that bridge. This brings back some memories of the early days of NS back when we regularly saw NW engines come to town.

  • Such were the days that I fear aren't with us any more.

  • Hey Greg, first, what year was this made? I've never seen a NW lettered motor before other than on video.

Also, and you probably already know this, Phenix City is spelled without the "O" for some reason. I wonder, was this by choise, or did the city leaders years ago have a reason for ommiting the "O"?

  • I'd guess this was back around 93 or so but I could be a couple of years off. As for the NW unit there's a few more shots we got if it on here. Don't know which ones right off hand.

As for the "O", thanks for spotting it. I would have never noticed it and have never thought twice about checking the spelling. Who knows why they omitted it. I'm sure there's some resion why they did though I'm not even going to try to guess.
