From http://LetThePeopleVoteCA.com:

I'm Bevan Dufty, I'm a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and I'm a candidate for Mayor this year. We're standing here at Sixth and Market, which is sort of ground zero for one of the most vulnerable parts of San Francisco. There are a lot of SRO hotels here, a lot of seniors, a lot of individuals on fixed income.... And a lot of individuals with a lot of needs.

One of the reasons I'm very supportive of having the special election in June is because we need to continue funding in-home care workers. Many individuals here rely on in-home care workers to help them do the basic necessities of life: to bathe, to go to the bathroom, to get groceries, to get to their doctors' offices.

What would happen if we lost this funding for in-home care workers is a lot of fragile individuals are going to wind up either being hospitalized or winding up in skilled nursing facilities. That degrades the quality of their life because they lose the opportunity to be independent, and it also costs the state and the city a lot more money.

I really hope that we can move forward and have this special election in June, because I absolutely think the voters of California, the voters of San Francisco, and the people who live right here at Sixth and Market would vote for these measures.

I think that we're seeing tremendous leadership from our new Governor in Sacramento and that he's called on the people of California and said, "Look at the choices ahead. You have a choice: you can say, 'no more, don't extend the current taxes.' Or he's saying, "give the voters an opportunity to go forward and say 'yes, we want to extend these measures.'" And I absolutely think that voters will.

Certainly I and others in San Francisco are going to vote to extend and support these measures.

I'm Bevan Dufty, I'm here in San Francisco, and I'm supporting in-home care.
