From the silent film era right up until the 1960s, newsreels would play before movies, offering audiences a glimpse of events happening around the world.
Take a trip into the past, with a newsreel that charts the dark history of Los Angeles, from the Chinese Massacre of 1871 to the infamous Black Dahlia murder.

  • William Edward Hickman got what he deserved, serves him right, that asshole bastard. Fuck those racist assholes in L.A.'s Chinatown in 1871, racist sailorman and all people involved in the lawlessness of the Zoot Suit Riots, William Edward Hickman, whichever asshole killed the Black Dahlia, fuck all them assholes, and all other scum of the earth, pieces of garbage losers. There is nothing sensational about crime and homicide. That's why life stinks sometimes.

  • los angeles has always been a shithole becoming progressively worse. now it is a home to violent gangs and corrupt police.

  • At 2:52 , that kind of looks like Aaron Eckhart and Josh Hartnett. Is that a deleted scene from The Black Dahlia film?

  • @AlisTaiRS94 I don't think hollywood was originally called hollywoodland, but the sign used to say "hollywoodland" when it was first put up, because it was a promotional sign for the new homes first being developed in the hollywood hills, and they called the development hollywoodland. After awhile the "land" part was gone but the hollywood section remained as the hollywood landmark of today.

  • HOLLYWOODLAND? is that what it originally was?

  • that movie was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. nothing about it was good

  • outopsy pics of the black dahlia go to rottenDOTCOM

  • Worst movie ever made and using the Dahlia in the title was insane since none of the movie was about the Dahlia but those stupid boring detecrtives instead I think De Palma's crazy and should retire.

  • It was a promo for The Black Dahlia movie that was released a few years ago. That's the poster for it at the end of the newsreel.

  • The former detective's name is Steve Hodel, who details his findings in a book called The Black Dahlia Avenger. If what he states is true than Elizabeth Short was only one of his father's victims.

  • There are a lot of theories but there is nothing definitive or conclusive, but you are right that is one of the theories.
