How to be Anonymous

For those who, tragically, cannot understand the slightly garbled voice of Microsoft Sam:

Greetings to all YouTubers, Anons, Scientologists, members of the news media, and any one else who stumbles upon this video.

So far, every single time a news outlet gives a "report" on us, we have been described as a hacker group, and it is usually implied that we are not very large. This is a lie. If you remember only one thing from this video, remember that. If you believe that Anonymous is a group of hackers, or that it is comprised primarily of hackers, it is of dire importance that you keep watching this video. Everything you thought you knew about Anonymous is wrong.

Anonymous is not simply a name or title. Neither is it really what you would call a group. There is no true leader of Anonymous. There is no list of members. We have no headquarters, and no list of rules. Such things would defeat the purpose of Anonymous.

The simple truth is that anyone can be Anonymous. You need only follow these simple steps:

Step 1. Make a video. Make a blog post. Make a video response or reply. Write an essay. It doesn't matter what you do or say, it only needs to be about Anonymous.

Step 2. Sign it Anonymous.

Step 3. Post.

You see, the power behind Anonymous is that it lacks organization, it lacks leaders, it lacks requirements to join. Anonymous is not a group, as you have been lead to believe. Anonymous is an idea. And to quote a famous movie, Ideas are bulletproof.

Believe us when we tell you that our enemies would like nothing more than to silence all of us. The church of Scientology in particular has proven in the past that they are fully capable of destroying their criticizers. If you do a little research, you will quickly uncover that a number of former Scientologists have been killed after leaving the church. If the leaders of Scientology had their way, every Anon would be either killed or arrested, maybe even worse. This is why Anonymous will be victorious. No matter how many Anons you defeat, more will always pop up in their place. We are legion!

For all those who wish to be Anonymous, you should keep the following guidelines in mind. These are not true requirements. They are simply friendly advice that will keep you safe, alive, and Anonymous.

1. Never refer to yourself as I. Anonymous is not a collection of individuals. Just as there is no I in team, there is no I in Anonymous. Anonymous always refers to itself as We.

2. Never show your face. Anonymous hides behind masks and disguises for their own protection. When you must show yourself, you should use some kind of disguise.

3. When it becomes necessary to refer to a single member of Anonymous, use the word Anon. This is not of crucial importance, but simply a matter of grammatical correctness. Using the phrase, members of Anonymous, adds to the false idea that we are a small group.

4. Capitalize Anonymous. It is a proper noun.

5. Remain calm, cool, and collected. A trolling Anon is not a helpful Anon. Anonymous inevitably receives a lot of negative criticism, and you must be able to handle it.

6. It is not necessary to be familiar with Internet memes, such as mudkipz or over 9000. But it helps.

There are other things that should be kept in mind, but the fact is that it is very easy to be Anonymous. You need not follow any of the previous to be Anonymous.
