The Lockheed SR-71 was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft by the Lockheed Skunk Works. The SR-71 was unofficially named the Blackbird, and called the Habu by its crews. Clarence "Kelly" Johnson was responsible for many of the design's innovative concepts. A defensive feature of the aircraft was its high speed and operating altitude, whereby, if a surface-to-air missile launch were detected, standard evasive action was simply to accelerate. The SR-71 line was in service from 1964 to 1998, with 12 of the 32 aircraft being destroyed in accidents, though none were lost to enemy action.

  • @Davechop54 ..Watching the Habu touch down, the A/C truly does take on the appearance of a hooded corba, a good example of this see vid @ 2:29, then you'll understand the name Habu, which is a black colored corba that lives on Okinawa...THX

  • What is the fundamental requirement at around 4:20? That they be married? Why?

  • @juandenz2008 So they don't defect.

  • 4:50 to 5:13 Black Ops

  • what documentary is this from?

  • @juandenz2008 to make sure the pilot was mature and had more reason to come home then to actually try and deviate from the flight plan any and fly an SR-71 for real, I don't think you appreciate how intoxicating that kind of power is. a lot of good pilots would probably throw their lives away trying to really fly the thing. I used to think I was a pretty mature driver, then I found myself driving a Porsche, I just had to open it up. you know? in the SR71 if you do that you drill a smoking crater

There is no suitable polymer sealant. However, nowadays there is many different manufacturing techniques compared to these of the 60s. As an engineer maybe I would build a one piece tank with an expansion bellows, all made from light weight alloy.

  • It does not refuel after takeoff because it leaks so much fuel. It refuels at 30,000 feet so that it can spend as much time as possible at higher altitude at mach 3.2. It leaks enough prior to takeoff to fill a few gas cans. An SR 71 pilot told me this.

  • 4:48 Am i the only won who recognizes this part? i don't wanna be a stupid COD commenter but it looks like a mission in Black Ops.

  • Sexy as hell
