I am grateful for this as I thought my young Blue Jay was dying when he went into such a trance.....nice to know

Yes, I thought the same when he forst did it. I just saw a dove do a similiar thing in my back yard. He has done this sonce he was six months old and does it every day in the summer.

In addition, I do not condone caging wild birds for pets, unless like in Blues case, you have no alternative and you have the time to raise such an animal, They need constant social activity. Blue would have died, and no rescue service would take him. He has had a good life and is rarely in his cage except when he wants to be there.

Blue, like all Scub Jays bond quickly to those that raise them, as I did Blue, so he thinks I am mom or dad. Once they have been in captivity long, they cannot be released.

Wow my rescued Jay, Joey does that too! Joey is 10 years old and still comes every day to my window to wake me up. He is released now but doesn't leave my yard area unless I drive in the car. He will follow the car for a bit.

That's great you have a released companion, the best of both words. You must have done a great job. How old was he when you first found him? Thanks for visiting. If you have any video, or articles you have written or pictures please send them to me for the blog.
Thanks Joey,
Tim Rumford
