I wrote this at the request of my friend Chris. In May 2006, our mutual friend, Grant Bull, took his own life. We were all Brothers of the Road whose paths crossed now and then, in dark smokey pubs, on thread bare sofas in unknown houses, and sometimes just on the street. We'd sing a little Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and then drift off from one another for several months and sometimes years. I sang this song two days after writing it, at Grant's funeral. I recorded it to give a copy to his sister but somehow the time was never right to just knock on the door. Maybe she'll find it on youtube but until then, to anyone lost in the darkness, I hope you find some comfort if you stumble across this song. No man is a failure if he has friends.
