A song I composed on the Irish flute. Apologies for the static sounds- I really need an HD webcam :)

  • hi, this is great! I've been looking at getting a wooden kind of flute, mostly for the awesome sound :D would you reccomend this? and could you tell me what key that flute is in? is it d? thanks, jenna :)

  • @jamjenjam Hi Jenna! I highly recommend a wooden one- this one that I have (polymer) is not nearly as nice and rich sounding as rosewood. Problem is they're a bit pricey, but if you're willing to spend the money, they're well worth it. Key of D

  • its a nice tune., ive recently been trying to learn flute, its a lot harder than the whistle but it has more volume and a nicer sound, but i think its gona take a while to get the blowing right..

    all the best ..james

  • NIce again :)

  • very nice!

  • @lsdvine Thank you! This song is called "The Irishman". I'd love to hear your rendition, as my hands are very small and thus, I cannot reach the notes in time for the song to be on rhythm. Do you have a pennywhistle? I would love to hear my song played on some sort of whistle, if you have it. Also, if you make a video of it, will you please credit me as the writer? :) Trying to get my compositions out there! Looking forward to hearing what you've got sir!

  • @Chantellyssa really, you have a very fine ear and just for a encouragement, writing music is easier when you relax. Ultimately the stave is a graph time is the vertical, pitch the horizontal. Perhaps just stick on a metronome which plays all the quavers and then play mega slow but the irish tradition is aural so you are well within the comfort zone. I've been working on it, i think i've almost got this tune by ear, whats it called?

  • @lsdvine I'm glad you like it :) Yes, I made this song, however, I do not actually read or write music, so I don't have this written down, it's all in my head or recorded. Also, I came up with this song the same day from playing only 15 minutes or so. I'm a very by-ear person, but it presents a challenge when it comes to dictation of it since I just don't. I find it tedious and frustrating to my improvisation and free playing. I know, I know, not good that I feel that way! :-p

  • you wrote this? would you send me some music, i promise i wont steal it!
