Great opera starts such as Birgit Nillsson, Renata Tebaldi, Alfredo Kraus, Luciano Pavarotti, Montserrat Caballe, Placido Domingo, Ileana Cotrubas, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Grace Bumbry giving lessons on how to sing...
I like Pavarotti's student, but not sure with others. I wonder why there are no old masterclass videos of the future big stars as students. I am curious of how young starters like Peters, Souliotis, Varnay, Di Stefano and Bjorling sounded before their debut. Of course, we do not have many truly young opera singers any more, but I believe Bartoli became famous at a very young age. I wish there were a video of Bartoli as a student. Or a big talent does not sing for a masterclass??
@pettylarceny85 Well you notice that nothing really changes in any of the singer's sounds they are making. The ideas of "placement" are not addressing the fundamental issues and the things Fleming says about the breathing or wrong. Nilsson for example doesn't really explain anything. Tebaldi concentrated on the breathing which was OK, but did not address the girl's sound directly. Kraus is just scary! LOL!
Dear LORD what a testament to who opera and singing has CRASHED and BURNED. Most of this stuff is utter nonsense, not helping the singers at all. Great singers do not equal great teachers.
@OliSheff His breathing is faboulous, but the emission is flawful: in fact, if he crackes one time on three, it's because he hasn't already found the right position after 40 years he is singing... Anyway, I have done a personal copy of this video cutting Domingo's part ;)

@MrCafiero Hey, I am an opera singer in training. Could you elaborate a bit what exactly is nonsense and why you think so?

@MisterPapageno I feel that is quite unjustified. Sure his sound is a little too chesty sometimes, but his technique is irrefutable.

Domingo that teaches how to sing to someone is like a blind man who teaches someone to see!
He has done all his career with a technique full of flaws ....

Kraus' student... Perfect example of a light tenor trying to sing music too heavy for him. young singer singing Aida? Sheesh.

This is a wonderful video. I especially enjoyed Nillson's class. Thank you for uploading this.
