The only "S50" the US got was the USS50b30 with 240hp in the `95 M3. Then `96-`99 M3's got the S52B32 with same hp but a bit more torque...thus the `98-`00 MZ3's got the S52, they are not real M engines but simply a larger version of the 2.5 M50 (for the S50) or 2.8 M52 (for the S52)

@makemebad747 Yes, it should slide right in. The larger engine may need new engine mounts but the car was designed to hold the straight 6 engine as well as the 4 cyl. The extra 100 hp will be nice.

i have a 97 1.9 and the engine is on its last legs i was wondering if it was possible if i could put the 3.2L 6 cylinder in my roadster

In 2001-2002, the last years the Z3 was produced, BMW did put a 3.2 liter engine in the M series. It was the S54. It's the same engine as in the E46 M3.

ther was an m roadster with 315 hp and it ran the 1/4 mile in 13.1 sec at 109.i was amazed by those times, and now i might get one

My dad owns a 2002 Z3 M Roadster :)

I'm sorry, I meant E46 M3 actually. I still get these stupid model codes mixed up.

Hey, I think the US got a 3.2 version for the last year of this car, like around 01 or 02 when the E36 M3 hit our showrooms. I think it made around 315 horses or so, and it is actually a better roadster than the current Z4 M

Since it's a euro model it's considered the Euro S50B32.

so the one in the vid isn't an s50?
thanks, from wiki.
M Coupes built between 1998 and 2000 are fitted with two different engines, depending on the destination market. These engines are the same ones used in the 1996 to 1999 BMW M3.
The US models were fitted with the S52, a 240 hp (176 kW) and 320 Nm (236 ft·lbf) 3.2 litre inline 6 cylinder engine.
European models were fitted with the S50B32, a 321 hp (236 kW) and 350 Nm (260 ft·lbf) 3.2 litre inline 6 cylinder engine.
