ANIMA CHRISTI (new version)

Join me in this short but profound prayer, which features in my new album "Our Catholic Faith - 2nd Edition". (It's a new recording, with the string accompaniment beautifully enhanced.)

This prayer, from around the 14th century, is still widely used, especially after reception of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion.

Although its authorship was once attributed to St. Ignatius Loyola, who included it in his "Spiritual Exercises", the prayer was subsequently discovered in a number of prayer books printed during Ignatius' youth and in manuscripts written a hundred years before his birth (1491). Some now credit its authorship to Pope John XXII, although that is by no means certain.
