Time for a trip down memory lane, this particular game series took up a massive chunk of my life as a child in the 90s. Infamously hard to even get running back then, this was part of Origin's experimental series of games, each one pushing new ideas to breaking point.

Crusader took place in an insanely interactive environment and combined action, puzzles and strategy into one glorious isometric experience. The music at the time was created using a tracker system, which immediately brought the sound experience up several notches over general midi.

This particular track played just after you customized your sound cards settings; IRQ, DMA etc, just as a test. I can't quite remember if the track also played during the game, but it wouldn't surprise me. It's representative of everything I love about the game; intelligent science fiction at it's best. After replaying the game recently via DOSbox, I decided to mix that particular track. The original doesn't have a melody of sorts so I created one, the drum part is also only temporary, it's proving to be a nightmare to program.

  • That's quite alright mate, no worries. I've added a link in the description, if you're interested in hearing the original.

  • I always wondered what the gaming industry would be like if companys like Origin, Looking Glass Studios, Sierra (Before Ken Williams left), Ritual studios, trioka and ion storm hadn't been closed. these companies were inovators and continued to offer us phenominal work right up til the end. they're closures are insults to the gaming community. only now really are game companies starting get catch on to the fact these guys had the right formula. about time!

  • sounds great! I only played the original, this brings back great memories of when I got my 1st PC

  • Great remix!

  • I love these games to bits, especially the first one, to be honest. I am REALLY sorry there was no conclusion to the great story-line. Woody Skaggs was simply amazing as Draygan: he really DID feel like your worst enemy and when you finally killed Draygan, it was very satisfying as a result. My only comfort is that Mr. Skaggs would not have been in any sequels anyway.

Still, I would pay a pretty penny to get a (fan-made?) third installment with a truly happy end.

  • nice sounds, great track.

    5/5

  • yay thanks! :) it sounds pretty awesome.

  • sounds like a very worthwhile series and as always a really nice song. Not remixed?
