  • @btirador lol

  • kinda looks like george bush :-O

  • Searle thinks you can deal with Derrida's claim that the signifier is generative by literally calling it "bullshit." That's how you know he's no linger relevant in the philosophy of language.

  • I was never crazy about Searle. If you read his CRM and how militantly he opposes Strong Artificial Intelligence based on the strange assumption that he understands how Consciousness actually comes to exist you see that..while he is a brilliant man..he wayyy to arrogant about his own conclusions. Consciousness is a really interesting thing, especially its place in philosophy of mind, and its role in human freedom vs. determinism. But I don't think his kind of certainty is even on the horizon yet

  • Old man, but still sharp. Scary.

  • Searle is definitely awesome. However, as I was about to get hooked onto his line of thought w/regards to consciousness, I realized that at it's base, reality is consciousness itself. I mean just look at quantum physics. It's a "nonmaterial" world.

  • Totally agreed that there's too much academic publishing.. once academic publishing was about filtering, now even though we filter, there's still too much to cope with.

  • It's common in universities to lose contact with the real world, and there's a VERY technical word for it, it's called: "bullshit"

    I couldn't stop laughing... LOL

  • John Searle is an amazing freaking philosopher. I love him.

  • Thanks for this upload!

    Very interesting interview.
