@TheFingersHurt Gee thanks the pro.

PRO TIP: don't hit them.

@aardvark9100 In Europe there's a pilot project that has proven to be very successful, retrofitting guard rails to make them safer (read: non-lethal) for bikers. What they do is add another horizontal rail below the one already there, maybe 2" off the ground. That stops the biker from sliding under the rail and getting limbs caught in the vertical supports, which is the main cause of injuries in those types of crashes. However its expensive in materials and labor costs.

How about you avoid hitting it in the first place?

I fucking hate those fucking pop-up ads blocking my view!

where did the motor go george?

@huckbeduck I dont't know how it's called. Anyway, insurance companies etc wouldn't go for it.

@trzcinarowice I think you're talking about the peltzman effect
-
And how was the old ramp style any safer? That's why they changed it...
-
They should be made dangerous so drivers would feel less safe and avoid them. It was discovered thet the more safety features (seat belts, airbags etc) the more invincible drivers think they are.
yah, if you hit ANY roadside barrier with a bike, you're pretty much fucked anyways. Unless it's a mattress filled with McDonalds playpen balls with a pretty fairy on top to nurse your wounds.

So, what is a safe barrier for a motorcyclist... mattresses? Can't have it both ways. They accept greater risks for their choice of a vehicle.
