Mark doing non-telegraphic Scheitelhau, Zwerchhau and Zornhau. Front view. Zwerch still needs work. I'll post a new vid once I'm satisfied with it, but this gives the general idea. note the flat on the shoulder variant in Vom Tag. I'm starting to think that's the optimal way to hold it. Jud Lew details that in his Zwerch chapter, and that could be the alignment depicted in the Von Danzig depictions of the Vier Leger.

  • That is totally worng. Liechtenauer is clear on that matter: a Schielhau is a strike done with the short side of the sword. This one here seems more like "Zecken", a weak but quick strike to the hands. Actually too weak to prevent from fighting against the "bulls" or people who are fighting with large motions and hard strikes.

Besides your striking mechanics are too artificial and unnatural. You seem to force yourself into quick strikes without controlling them.

  • @MrHenryMason There is no Schielhau in this video. It is a Scheitelhau. :) Also, this is an old video (perhaps a year or so) and my mechanics have improved since this was made. It hits really quite hard. I have force transfer videos as well which you might enjoy. There is one where my training partner is holding a messer in a half-sword grip which I strike with the Scheitelhau. A few strikes were enough to make her hands go numb. The idea is to rotate the sword around it's CoG. (con't)

  • @Kunstdesfechtens (con't) as seems to be alluded to in HS 3227a ("Dobringer"). There are other striking mechanics that I use, and this is indeed a work in progress. I also train in koryu kenjutsu which uses yet another mechanic. However, I encourage you to try it for yourself and see how you like it. I'll post a new video in the new year to show the progression. :)

  • Wait... the vid doesn't tell me when the Zornhau is coming...

First the Scheitelhau, then the Zwerchhau... and then ??? same last move ?

  • @PkmnMegahero Yeah, Zornhau is after the Zwerch.

  • Great stuff. Now the next level is to not telegraph the strike with you facial expressions.

  • Yeah, it's a work in progress. :) I need to work on my footwork more too so it's more explosive so I can cover more ground during the strike. Glad you like it!

  • Yes. Very true! But I think it still should be considered that if your face is giving away your intention by tensing up right before a strike, there's a possibility that other parts of your body may be doing the same. Even just breathing hard before a strike can give a hint. Now I'll admit that all of this is really splitting hairs, but the goal of these videos are to reduce telegraphing intentions. So why not examine how to take it to the next level?

  • good point, but as devil's advocate, when do we fight out of masks any more?

  • Congratulations for your hard work and effort. You have a good training attitude. It will eventually make you better. To get rid of telegraphing and to build up short power, you may want to go back to simply swinging your sword from right and left oberhau down, moving the hips. This might be simple and boring, but it's worth the work.
