He's saying that when we grew up at that time (I'm black too, not so big though lol), that we all listened to all kinds of music, not as stratified as it was in the 80s-2000's.. I loved Earth, Wind and Fire, Oho Players, but also have the best of John Denver, loved Gordon Lightfoot, and America. So his point is not a dig at anyone but if you grew up here at that time, he's pointing out how special it was.
