Suzanne Balguerie 1888-1973.

This is a historical recording. Balguerie's interpretation is the only recording contemporaneous to the composer and the one he is said to have preferred. Today, Andre Tubeuf writes. "Her Ariane is that of a prodigious singer perfecting the impossible task of articulating the lyrics clearly [...] all the more intelligibly, luminously even as the tessitura warms up and lights up from within." (L'avant Scène Opéra N°149/150) And Jean-Charles Hoffele writes: "One shouldn't forget that the absolute Ariane was Suzanne Balguerie, trained in the Gluckiste school, where the articulation of the lyrics is prized above everything." (Concert classique.com, septembre 2007).
Recorded the 3rd of February 1930. Conductor: Elie Cohen
