This is my new coal boiler. We just got it up and running the day before this video. It's very different than wood but it's a heck of lot less work once it's going. The bin should hold about a months worth of coal.

  • Nice set up, what size flue does is it use

  • @GabodaBuilding it's a 5" flue.

  • Mind if I ask what this system cost, installed? And now that you've had it a while, how long you believe the payback period will be vs. using oil for your heat and domestic hot water? Thansk.

  • @jennifermillerboyle1 Under 10k to install 4-6 years pay back. Now with all the crap thats going on in the middle east I'm really glad to have it.

  • and also is this mainly for water heating or does it also heat the whole house?

  • @Engineer5344 It's a boiler, so it ties right into my forced hot water system.

The basement does get nice and warm just from it running down there.

    It's actually comfortable.

  • is there a certain control box that controls the speed of the augger?

  • @Engineer5344 I top off the bin once a month and empty the ashpan once a week unless its REALLY cold. Sometimes I may not look at it for three or four days but a quick peek once a day is best. The way it works is the coal comes up the auger the transfers down to the fire. When the anthrastat placed uderneath the fire tube detects the temp getting low. It pulls in a selenoid which pulls the ash of the bottom of the burn tube and into the ash pan. Its very simple but very dependable.

  • can you tell me how this operates and how often you have to tend to it to make sure nothing goes wrong with it please?

  • @adxoplo Yikes, that would be great until it caught fire! Sometimes for a couple of different reasons the fire will try to burn up the feed tube and near the auger. That's why the High temp fabric was my simple $20 solution.
