Memorable 1969 hit from Lulu. Lulu Kennedy-Cairns, OBE (born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, 3 November 1948, Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire), best known by her stage name Lulu, is a Scottish singer-songwriter, actress, and television personality who has been successful in the entertainment business from the 1960s through to the present day. She is most famous worldwide for her hit "To Sir, with Love" and in the UK for "Shou
Lulu grew up in Dennistoun, Glasgow, where she attended Thomson Street primary school and Onslow Drive Junior School. She lived in the Gallowgate for a while before moving to Garfield Street. At the age of 12-13, she and her manager approached a band called the Bellrocks asking if she could sing with them to get used to a live band and the stage. Alex Thomson (bass player of the Bellrocks) said even at that age her voice was unbelievable. She then went on to sing with them every Saturday night. They were asked to become her backing band, but at that time, playing was just a hobby and a bit of fun. Taken under the wing of Marion Massey, she became famous at the age of fifteen with her version of The Isley Brothers' "Shout", delivered in a raucous and extraordinarily mature voice.

  • Lulu is so cute

  • @1761Charlie Why can't we love them both for their individual talents? Why do we have to hate all of today's music just b/c we believe we had the best there ever was back then? I love them both...and I would bet you, they love each others' music. Oh, and just for the record...that wasn't French.

  • Pardon my French but . . . FUCK Adele . . . this is how to sing. Long live Lulu!!!

  • Nice song. Thought she was english.

  • Duane Allman plays on this. Nuff said.

  • musically, this is everything a love song should be.....smooth sympathetic background instruments and heart felt vocals. Her smokey style voice is the iceing on the cake

  • FYTI: The rhythm tracks were recorded @ Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, USA in August/September, 1969, by the then unknown musicians the Swampers and Duane Allman. Lulu was only the second major artist to record there (Cher was the 1st).

  • @2010metsfan LOL.....Seasons in the sun.......that has to be in the top 5 worst songs ever written. Right up there with "you light up my life". Funny you mention that exact song......I always turn the station the instant that comes on

  • @inkey2 No b/c they're too busy with "Seasons in the Sun" or some crap! This is a classic with Lulu!

  • @tomthefunky Memphis, England was a joke although I didnt know she recorded an album in Memphis, Tenn. LuLu has a great voice and presence. I love her music no matter where it was produced ! Go LuLu !!
