The Choir of Ely Cathedral perform the hymn 'Lord of All Hopefulness' to the tune of the Irish folk melody 'Slane.' The words of 'Be Thou My Vision' are often set to the same tune.

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
whose trust, ever childlike, no cares could destroy,
be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
be there at our labours, and give us, we pray.
your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.

Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,
be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray.
your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.

Same with me! I love it too. I learned it at School in the 60's and I became a Christian 37 years ago. It hit me! It is a prayer I often use. Godbless you,,,, PS I'm really Thankful to all those dedicated teachers years ago who had good standards. I wish it was all still here today!

  • We used to sing this on the last day of each school term. Didn't mean much to me then, but after becoming a Christian about 30 years ago, it struck home and has been a comfort to me ever since - I know it by heart. Can be taken to refer either to all day or to all life.

  • @maggijude A sure sign He is trying to say something to you about hope I'd say.

  • @RootfrootMatt this has been stuck in my head/ear since you favourited it
