This is awesome, man. Teaching a child the skills required for healthy strength training is so important. As a junior high strength coach, I see atrocious form every day and would kill to have a kid with this background in our weightroom. What a great example of being a good father as well. It's good to see you spending this kind of quality time with your son.
Can't wait to see the mad totals this kid'll put up in the next 10-15 years!

When I have kids, I'm going to encourage them to lift a little and do aerobics. Not like those crazy muscle kids, but a little to make them grow up healthy and enjoy working out when they get older.

mabe it would be better to get ur kid an X box and set infront of a tv for 5 hours, that would teach him alot more life skills......(sarcasm). keep ur kid in the gym and way from bullshit like videogames and tv as long as you can. its awsome to see a father who isnt afraid to teach his son what being a real man is.

Awesome video. My youngest son spends a lot of time in my gym as well.
Kids climb on playgrounds, trees, and run and jump constantly. They pick up heavy things and twist and contort their bodies every way imaginable. They push, pull, and squat repeatedly throughout a normal day. Parents allow them to play full contact football at 6 years old and compete in wrestling even younger. Many times the very same people suggest that a few movements in the gym with weights will hurt them. Ridiculous.

@WesleyInman its not bad to lift at a young age but its bad to lift very heavy weights at a young age because their bone structure has not fully developed.

@tfinder why do people think lifting weights at that age is bad for you, all aspects of sports you are going to be using pushing your body at any age...I started sports at 4 and lifting at 7 years old and it has benefited me in every aspect of my life, I find it hard to believe people think otherwise.
I think it's great to encourage fitness (or anything else healthy) at a young age. However, using weights seems harmful at that stage of life.
Since this video is a few years old will be an updated one? Is he still doing this now?

He is now 6 and is still not allowed to lift any more than his 15 pound curl bar. We still have a great time in the gym together and I cherish every second we spend there. As I said before, I am not interested in what he can lift...just that he knows the gym is a place a man belongs and taking care of his body is a must. I just want him to have fun and see him smile. For me, that is what it is all about. I hope it is something that he takes with them no matter where life takes him.

Stick to the basics...fun, bodyweight movements, short sessions and no matter what he must leave with a smile. The bar he has is 15 lbs. thats it. Don't get caught up in the numbers. Just enjoy the time and the fact that your son will think of the gym as a positive place he can go at anytime. For me, it has been one of the most rewarding things in my life. Like I said, emphasize correct form, simple movements and having fun...the rest will take care of itself. Good Luck.
