Is it possible to have a love affair with a city? The answer is "Yes"!
I've been in love with Venice for most of my life, and this video shows why. It shows Venice the way I see her every time I go there. I know its through rose-tinted glasses, but whatever!
All video was shot during my 9 day visit in August, 2010. Unfortunately a lot of the city was covered in scaffolding and under restoration at the time, so I was limited in what I could show - the main sight omitted from this video is the Bridge of Sighs, which was covered by a massive coca-cola ad. I decided to omit it rather than show it in such a tragic state. The other building completely covered in a huge billboard was the Mint on Piazza San Marco.
Background Notes -
Many famous Venetian buildings have been omitted due to video time issues. If I showed everything I wanted to, this video would have become a two hour epic. In order to keep people's interest, I've shown the sights most people see on a normal day trip.
Other places were just too crowded to get decent shots of them - St. Mark's Basilica was the main victim here. I could only get a good shot of it immediately after a thunder storm and everyone had retreated into the restaurants. Hence the shots of the Piazza are dark, cloudy and stormy. Sorry about that! The other building omitted is, as noted above, the Mint on Piazza San Marco. I've tried to obliterate it entirely, due to the enormous billboard covering the entire building.
This video was shot on a Canon HG10 camcorder, with a wide angle converter. (This causes buildings to lean at the sides of the shots, but is the only way of shooting large scenes without panning continuously.) All shots were videoed on the XP setting, rather than HD setting - I find XP gives a smoother look when viewed on anything other than an HD TV set. I used a cheap Hama mic for sound recording in the opening scene. The video was edited in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8; I know its an old version, but I find it perfect for my needs and for my laptop's capabilities.
I hope all this useless information helps someone :)
What a great video and documentary. I shall be visiting soon and this is tops.

Hi Mark, it's Jack. Firstly- amazing Video, the quality of content and editing is truly that of a TV documentary. Secondly- I second Lucy's comments about learning about Venice- it's almost like we are there with you gondoling along the canals. Thirdly- with videos like this, you are totally wasted at eJ. I CANNOT wait for the next in the series.
