the circle is actually the analog stick you use it to play aswell the 3d thing is the thing on the top screen thats on the right side in the bottem right corner

It's called 3DS because it is a play on words. you could look at it as "3.. DS". or "3D.. S" it's a 3D DS. the d's are combined -_-
