Heartbreaking and powerful. I wonder if they got in trouble for showing the poor dead boy's body? I've noticed that later on, in the sixties Dragnet (and maybe Adam-12 too), they went overboard to not show any dead children.

Corny & overdone to the point of being melodramatic.Who said that Jack Webb went for realism? This whole scenario is unrealistic to the point of absurdity !

Only careful people should own guns, and I think a lot more was changed in this story than just the names, but those were the times I guess.

I have a 9 year old son, so this episode is particularly heart-wrenching to me.
"You don't give a kid a gun for Christmas"----or at all, in my opinion.

I hate to sound cold, but shouldn't Stanley's father (and/or mother) been held accountable for the other boy's death? Excellent episode. "Dragnet" is the greatest!
