Mobile phone users subscribing to money transfer services and post paid tariffs may not be required to register their SIM cards. According to Safaricom, users of both M-Pesa and post-pay services have already provided most of the requisite information and are therefore not subject to the new directive. Subscribers may however be called upon to confirm their details or provide additional information.
@kushotto i totally agree with you but don't you also think that it is better when sims r registered? i mean look at fraudsters that con innocent kenyans using mobile phones. one case is where kenyans were conned 1000 bob each by a gang claiming it will get them jobs. if sims had been registered then, the police would have traced them. physical address or not, with such data like names n dates of birth, such fraudsters will have to think of other means. it is better n safer this way.

@kushotto well the rising cases of kidnapping, this is a positive move. kidnappers use mobile phones to ask for ransoms.
