It's quite often the case here that you can cycle on smooth bike paths which bypass rough country roads. In fact, the roads are made deliberately rough so that motorists are deterred from using them, which makes cycling on the rest of the road all the better.

There are several kilometres of normal road either side of this rough part, but they're used by more bikes than cars because it doesn't go anywhere for drivers.
