飛ぶゴマダラカミキリ♂ Longicorn Taking-Off

ブーンという重低音の羽音とともに照明に向かって飛び立ちます。観察を繰り返すと離陸­直前の兆候が何となく分かるようになりました。触角を振り立てて辺りの様子を確認し、­立ち止まってモジモジします（足場を確認）。次に前翅をパカッと持ち上げ折り畳まれた­後翅を広げます。スローモーションで見ると後翅の翅先は一部畳まれたまま。残りは羽ば­たきながら振り出すようにして広げるのでしょう。カミキリムシの本で飛行中の瞬間を切­り取った写真を見ると後翅は先端まで完全に広がっています。いつか私も本格的に飛翔シ­ーンを高速度撮影してみたいものです。

yes, they are destructive pests from the economic viewpoint of forestry.

but many kinds of bugs are attracted to the tree sap exuded from the damages caused by longhorn beetles.

in other words, various lives rely on longhorn beetles in the natural ecosystem.

i have observed once the mating of flower longhorn beetles.

this case looked like a peaceful consensual sex, 'cause all of their antennae were intact.

but flower longhorn's jaw may not be so strong to inflict a wound.

i had a feeling that damaged antennae are not rare among longhorns in the wild.

I think that's not the cause of predator. Longicorn (Longhorn or Cerambycidae) beetles use to cut their 'horns' off during their period of copulation.

his antenna was already damaged when i caught him in the field.

i dunno what (predator?) caused the injury.

yes, it is one of the commonest longhorn species in my neighborhood.

i found him in the mountain park and brought home.
