My favorite laughingstock-argument of the WTO's is that it promotes peace (supposedly by alleviating poverty)--if it is accepted that peace results from displacement, discrimination, and the wholesale marginalization of broad swaths of society, than we'd better brace ourselves for a wave of violence whose causes we cannot possibly comprehend.

The far majority of U.S. agricultural subsidies go to the large Agro-corporations and their farms. And i think your logic is a bit flawed in the sense that as soon as prices rose to level where people felt they could make money, they would get back into farming and the would bring the overall prices back down to the "natural" level.

Right, I think it was Oregon v. So. Pacific Railways (1918). Anyway the Supreme Court stated the "income was corporate gaind and profits, while one's labor was AN EQUAL TRADE for one's time/energies for goods and/or property (obviously money, considered property is the most common exchange). Thus the personal income tax is illegal by admission of the U.S. Supreme Court. But since the IRS (which now falls under the jurisdiction of the IMF) wrote the tax code, they do what they want.
