I think you mean circular not spherical.... a rainbow can only appear to you in a single plane at a certain angle (around 23 degrees) from the center pt between your eye and the light source, normally the sun. In the air, a circular rainbow can be made because since you are looking down on clouds (which are reflecting light back up) the bow appears at 23degrees around a center point. a normal rainbow is also circular just most is unobservable due to terrain.
