In January/February 2006, Tory MP Boris Johnson was standing for rector of Edinburgh University. Some students decided to let him know what we thought of him, and I treated him to my pint.

hmm unfortunately because our beloved boris is an mp in Britain and not leader of the country his security is insufficient and didnt do what id have loved to see which is a beatdown off camera. whats there to hate about him, hes a person with less brains than most of us who doesnt worry about it and blags stuff through which is more effective than what most other mps do which is by the book beauracracy

Well even if you ignore that point in the Times, the other one about universities and the Scot's general health (burden on the NHS) is enough to conclude that they're useless and need to be detached from England.

Well apart from anything it was found in the Times about 7 months ago that Scotland contributed the least to Britain. Northern Ireland second, northern England third and finally southeast England contributed the most.

Without having to pay all those students in Scotland to do Media Studies or P.E., I think England could be quite considerably better off. With the extra money we'd fund new troops and buy more oil from the Arabs.

We don't need Scotland.

Southeast england contributes the most because that's where the most people are, big companies, banking, major business and manufacturing are mostly based in London. This doesnt mean its any better than anywhere else, it's just because London has the most international connections because it's the Capital City. Papers enjoy selling these stats as gold plated proof because it sells papers. Open your ears, eyes and mind and make your own judgements.
