    Interracial, I love it!

    Regards,

    Sirdhume

Your legitimate neighbour in the long-established-at-least-several-hundred-years-ago English County of Cornwall.

id say darky day had its origins also at that the beltain bofires and are associated with chimney sweeps ( being a bringer of luck / fertility ) ... they would use the soot from the fires to rub on there faces thus endowing them with fertility from the land / crops in a primitve fertility rite .... ppl mistook this along with the morris being a morrisco or moors dance

Truth is "darky day" was in origin was an ancient midwinter celebration of cornwall. The blacking up of the face had nothing to do with "mummers" or "darkies", African slaves or anything of the sort. But during the period of the "black minstrel" craze a lot of Englishmen compared the Cornish celebration to their racist Anglo tradition, and encouraged its corruption. Much to their amusement. Elsewhere their original tradition remains intact. So who's to blame for "darky day" folks like sirdhume.
