This trailer is fairly awesome... it puts most others to shame. But then so does the film itself- if you haven't already, GO BUY IT!

BTW I don't actually own this video- if you are the owner and don't want me showing it, just send me a message and I'll remove it immediately.

Absolutely agree. I always watch the subtitled version - especially in regular movies especially because even though you can't understand the words, the intonations and emotion in the voice is more authentic. In anime, I find the translated subtitles usually fill in the story a lot more than the straight dubbing. Depends I guess... How great is this director though?! I want to see even more of his work. Everyone should really see this movie on DVD if possible - otherwise enjoy.

Depends on what you watch. Some shows will follow the script as a general outline for dubbing but will change the words to make it sync better with the video. For instance, no one would dare watch Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni in english compared to the Japanese audio, but Fullmetal Brotherhood and Code Geass do a fine job of dubbing.

However, she falls into a mysterious coma, and the 2 boys seperate and live different lives; one a physicist and the other joins a liberation front.

They end up meeting again on discovering the use of the tower, and they have to destroy it as they believe it will help the girl(Sayori) wake up.

So the plane they built is finished and one of the boys gets to fly to the tower and take Sayori with him, as they had both promised her they would(hence the title).

    And it looks unbelievably beautiful.

What don't you get? The story line, or something else? I can help if I know what it is^ ^

If it's plot; In a different reality Japan lost the war, and they were divided; The North now belongs to the 'Union'(USSR) and the South to the US. In Hokkaido the Union have built a tower that can be seen as far as Tokyo.

2 Boys in the South dream of flying to the tower in a plane they build in their spare time. They fall in ove with a class mate and promise to take her with them to the tower.

In all honesty, that is a load of bullox.

It's not like read a line takes 2 minutes or something. Most people are able to get through it REALLY fast. When I watch English dubs, I tend to get side-tracked and distracted from the lovely animation and story, because of the multiple mistakes the actors make with their pronunciation and their way of expressing the words. It's as if they are hesitant to put their souls into the work, unlike the original voice actors. I get bored from watching dubs.

No idea, but from the trailer, I'm guessing that the main girl and guy promised eachother that one day, they'd come back to a place they promised eachother they'd be, so they could meet again. But there is a war going on, and as the promised day nears the guy (who may be fighting in the army) wants to fulfill his promise.

Unless the director is a complete idiot, and totally screws up the story.

Example: whoever made the movie version of The Golden Compass. Book = x50 better.

I'm a great reader and love to read. And I love watching movies. But I don't want to hear a movie that I am supposed to be watching but am instead have to read the subtitles. It side tracks me. We all have our preferences, please don't fight people.

For one thing, if you have to "keep up" with the subtitles, you are a little slow.

2nd the authentic emotion in the voices is very VERY important. Dub actors just cannot do it, not even a little, and if you can't see that then you are either too young or too new to anime.

I bet you watch your anime online. It hurts because I'm right.
