For Britain to make such a moving tribute to The Olympics, Atlanta, GA, and the best of the US Olympians of all time, really says something special about thier country. Props to Great Britain and the BBC.

I'm British but seeing Carl Lewis win his 9th gold, Michael Johnson smashing the 200m WR and the women's US team gold in gymnastics will stay with me for a long time! Redgrave's 4th gold was great to see as well, as well as Michelle Smith dominating the swimming!

Allow me to offer a counterattack. Athens lost out to Atlanta for the Centennial Games, and that's probably a bad thing, at least from the Greek standpoint. With Atlanta, there were no last minute preperations, no threats to relocate the Olympics, and most importantly, no literally fatal debt crises as a result of big-money Olympic spending. Take that, Athens.

This was a really great intro for Atlanta. It is sad that the 1996 Games have always got a bad press (from a Brit viewpoint it's obvious - 1 Gold) but one of the problems were it fell between two class acts that have been regarded as all time greats since - Barcelona and Sydney. As a result it will always be seen as the poor cousin. Also there will be sadly at least a small degree of anit-Americanism.

To me it always that people complain about it either the 1996 games being too commercail or poor transportation. The transportation thing I get because it's still terrible, the commercialization I think is stupid because these cities spend billions of dollars on studiums to be used for 3 weeks, they have to see a return on the investment.

There's a saying "you can be too close to the problem" and I'm afraid you are and to be honest an outsider looking in is more likely to give an unbias opinion than someone in the thick of it and involved with it.
And further to that, it is tradiition for the IOC chief to say at the closing ceremony of the games to say its was the best ever games. It was notable he never said that at Atlanta.

Great intro to what were the worst Olympics of the last 25 years. Sorry Atlantans but it was a poor one, compared to Barcelona, Sydney, Athens, Beijing.

I know that people in Britain and Europe in general rearrange their schedule for the World Cup, do they do it for Olympics too?
I guess we MIGHT in US but I can't remember a time when they were not shown in prime time.
