What worries and shames me is how quickly the Australian public forgot about this, and happily kept a clearly racist and inhumane govt in office.

So your uncle was Peter Reith, was he? He blatantly misled the parliament and the public, knowing he was going to retire to his pension. He was the biggest villain of the lot, but he managed to escape censure by quitting. I would be deeply ashamed of the association if I was you. I certainly wouldn't use it as some sort of mark of authority on this issue. Read the Senate inquiry to discover the full extent of his culpability.

Julia Gillard told a lie about the price of carbon, John Howard told a lie and accused parents of throwing their children into the water to win a few cheap votes. John Howard took us into a war based on a lie. Which is worse?

The Howard years were a dark period in Australia's history. I am not just referring to the blatant lies that he and his Government told, nor the fact that they were so cold, calculating and inhumane that they would exploit some of the most vulnerable people in the world (ie asylum seekers) to get elected. What I am really referring to is the average Australian, who were happy to overlook all this treachery because the economy was good and they had a few bucks in their greedy pockets. Shame!

@cunnamullafalla No, John Howard at least had the guts to take a GST to an election, unlike Gillard with the Carbon Tax. He and Costello brought our country to one of it's highest points. Inflation was down, we had a huge surplus, and life was good. Then the people decided for a 'change' and voted in Labor and now what do we have? A carbon Tax no one wants. Billions into dept. Illegal immigrents. Gillard is the biggest coward. Howard was one of the best.
