Britannia rules the waves (last night of the Proms, 2006)

Exalted patriotism in theRoyal ALbert Hall, as everyone joined in to sing "Britannia Rules the Waves". Last night of the BBC Proms, 2006 (8/9/06). The atmosphere and the concert was great.

It should be the anthem, rather than that tedious dirge about the Monarch. A national anthem should be about the nation and the people, not one accidental inheritor of an ancient stolen title. The current anthem implies that Britain is all about the Monarch, which it obviously is not. If the monarchs had any real concern for the people, they would have insisted on the change decades ago. But the Brits love tugging the forelock to their 'betters', which is why I left 42 years ago. Hidebound land.
