Wind beneath their wings - Birdman competition from 1975

The coastal resort of Selsey was more crowded than usual as 36 competitors prepared to launch themselves off the pier to see whose home-made wings carried them the furthest.

Sadly, and traditionally, success eluded the contestants and no one managed to reach the elusive 50 metre flight target and £3000 prize money.

that was my dad david cook i was 11 years old he won that !!! and they never payed out the money!! his book flying from my mind is out go and get one it will tell you all about it gary
